We had the pleasure of meeting Harini Iyengar and hearing her speak at Sita’s Diwali last year and we were in awe! Today we celebrate Harini not only because of her fantastic 17 year career as a barrister but because she challenged the social constructs of being an Hindu woman and showed us that there is no ‘mould’ that we should fit into. Harini is a Governor of London Metropolitan University, an external trustee of Oxford University Student Union and sits on the steering committee of the Temple Women’s Forum. She is a professional champion for the First100years project and a true patron for the fight in achieving equality for women in the legal profession. In 2016, she ran for election to the Greater London Assembly for the new Women’s Equality Party, in its first-ever elections.
